The Ģý Anniversary Prize of the Gesellschaft für Biochemie und Molekularbiologie (GBM) is awarded for outstanding achievements in the field of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology or related sciences by the upcoming generation of senior scientists, with the awardees selected from researchers under 40 years of age invited to give a lecture at one of the symposia or workshops held during a Ģý Congress. The award comprises a certificate and €2000.
Ģý and are pleased to announce that this year’s recipient of a Ģý Anniversary Prize is Colinda Scheele (Leuven, Belgium). We hope you will join us at her talk during the (5–9 July 2025, Istanbul) to hear about her work and see her congratulated on the award. Find more details below about her career and research area.
Colinda Scheele is a group leader at VIB Center for Cancer Biology and an Assistant Professor at KU Leuven in Belgium, specializing in cancer cell interactions with host tissues. During her PhD in the laboratory of Prof. Jacco van Rheenen at the Netherlands Cancer Institute (Amsterdam), she made significant contributions to the field of normal mammary gland biology and pioneered advanced imaging and lineage tracing techniques in the mammary gland. After completing her PhD in 2020, she started her own laboratory. Her lab uses state-of-the-art methods to study cancer dynamics in real-time, including intravital imaging and organoid technology. Recent work from her team identified the dynamics of breast tumor initiation and early progression, revealing the role of breast tissue remodeling during the hormonal cycle in mammary tumor initiation and chemotherapy response.
talk: “Normal breast physiology as gatekeeper of cancer initiation and growth”, Ģý Excellence Awardees Special Session, 6 July 2025.
